Root Canal Treatment (RCT)

A root canal treatment whereby an infected or grossly decayed tooth is made non-vital in order to save it from extraction and to eliminate the pain.

In Root Canal Treatment, the infected pulp (core including the blood supply and nerves) is carefully removed and the area is disinfected. After the pulp chamber is cleaned the root canals are shaped to receive a filling material (known as Obturation)

Nowadays the entire treatment is performed in a single sitting under local anaesthesia (to reduce discomfort and treatment time).

A Root Canal treated tooth is prone to breakage or fracture (due to its non-vital status) hence it is advisable to put a crown over it immediately.
